About

The mission

Forecast Michigan is the definitive portal for the Great Lakes State's weather and climate — built to make the official National Weather Service forecast fast, clean, and highway-clear for all 83 counties, across both the Lower Peninsula and the Upper Peninsula.

No state is shaped by water like Michigan: the lake-effect snow belts off Lakes Michigan and Superior, the marine weather on all four Great Lakes, the November gales, summer severe storms and tornadoes downstate, and the deep Arctic cold of a U.P. winter. Forecast Michigan is being built to tell that whole story — county by county, region by region.

The design language

The look borrows from the American Interstate system — the reflective paper, the green guide signs, the blue service signs, the brown recreation signs, and the red-white-and-blue route shields — set in Overpass, the typeface drawn from the Highway Gothic lettering on those signs. Michigan takes a cool lakeshore paper and a Great Lakes teal accent, floating on lake-blue water — its own note in the network.

Metro & region sites

Michigan is covered close-up by 8 region sites, each on its own subdomain of forecastmichigan.com — the same maps, the same live radar and the same climate record as this site, drawn to one metro or region instead of the whole state, with a page for every city in it. They are part of Forecast Michigan, not separate sites: /about on any of them lands back here.

Companions & the network

Every one of Michigan's neighbors is live: Forecast Indiana and Forecast Ohio below the state line, Forecast Wisconsin across the water to the west, Forecast Minnesota off the Lake Superior shore, and Forecast Illinois at the bottom of Lake Michigan — each tinted in its own accent on the hero map and clickable from it. The rest of the Forecast <State> network is part of the same system.
